What the #<!! is Going On?
By Jim Kuiken
Lots happening in the news lately…and not all (or even most) of it is good. This week’s post will be short (or not, depending on you) and to the point.
Increasing violence and war overseas. Presidential elections and the candidates. Racial division. Killing / shooting / injuring police officers. And on, and on…ad nauseam.
Not all, if any of this is new, and most of them are subjects I’ve talked about before in various posts. Reflecting on some from the past, about now and the future.
First, since it’s on everyone’s mind (except those in Watter’s World…), what the heck’s up with the election?
So…what is behind the process of the candidates and campaigns? Stay positive or go negative?
Inside a Political Campaign 8/25/2015
It doesn’t really matter anyway; the government doesn’t work. It’s the government’s fault. Nothing changes.
Making Government Work 3/23/2016
But what kind of leaders are we really looking for? Are these the ones, or should be looking for different candidates…good leaders?
What is Leadership? 9/16/2015
So what should I do? What is the right way, which is the best party?
Let’s Talk Politics!! 6/24/2015
Ok, enough politics. We have violence on the streets, people targeting law enforcement officers and others. Shooting them down on the streets. Is there really a war on ‘cops’? When I wrote this, I was hoping it would be different, but the last paragraph turned out to be prophetic…or was it? Maybe it was just a statement of fact.
The War on Law Enforcement Officers 9/2/2015
If they’re just going to be in a war, why do they do it? Why not just quit, leave the streets to take care of themselves and let whatever is going to happen be someone else’s problem?
What It Takes 4/21/2015
And if they get hurt, or are in trouble (or their families are suffering because of their loss or disabling injury), who can they turn to for support?
The Brother/Sisterhood – Who Else Is There? 5/19/2015
Our country is going to hell in a handbasket. Too much hate, too much violence. What the heck happened?
It seems like everyone is pissed off nowadays. Screaming and yelling to make you believe their point…but does it? No. It just raises the tension and furthers the divide. TALK to me, don’t yell and curse at me.
Civility Lost? 2/3/2016
And though this next one may seem diametrically opposed to the previous one, it’s not. BOTH are centered on a civil discourse – even if someone or some opinion “offends” you. Contrary to popular belief (especially in the unrealistic world of college campuses), you do not have the right to not be offended.
That’s Offensive! 12/9/2015
And everyone, even those you disagree with, has the right to PEACEFULLY express their opinions.
The First Amendment – Rights (or wrongs…) 5/10/2015
Talk to others, don’t talk at them, scream at them, or attack them. All is NOT lost…it’s not generational, it’s human.
Do You Walk the Walk or just… 10/21/2015
As I’ve said numerous times before, step back, take a breath, and I hope you find some peace.
